Do you know about the Ausseerland? This is a small and beautiful region in the Salzkammergut - in the Styrian part of it. The Ausseerland is located in north-western Styria, borders on Upper Austria and is scenically characterized by many lakes and hikeable mountains.
Bad Ischl and the Kaiservilla (Imperial villa)
Exactly the villa in Bad Ischl which the emperor Franz-Joseph established as his summer resort and where he also got engaged to his Sisi, can still be visited today. It houses a museum which is entirely dedicated to the k.u.k. monarchy and the Habsburg family. Every year on the emperor's birthday in August, Bad Ischl hosts a big festival lasting several days which is worth a visit not only for fans of the imperial house. Tip: Being already in Ischl, you should definitely not miss the delicious and famous Zauner Kipferl in the confectionery of the same name.

Krippenstein
All year round, the Krippenstein in the Dachstein massif near Hotel Agathawirt is the gate to the spectacular mountain world of the Alps. In winter, skiers, free riders and tour hikers will find their Eldorado here. In summer, mountaineers, climbers, hikers and nature lovers will find happiness. With the Krippenstein-Dachstein-cableway you can reach the mountain fast and then enjoy unique views of the Salzkammergut.
Ice cave in the Dachstein
The ice cave Obertraun on the Dachstein is a true nature wonderland and a beautiful excursion destination for the whole family. The cableway will take you comfortably to the cave's entrance and during a guided tour you will feel the fascination of the ice world in the mountain closely.
The Salzwelten – salt mines with fun factor
The Salzwelten (salt worlds) include the salt mine in Hallein, the oldest salt mine in the world in Hallstatt and the salt mine in Altaussee. Each of the three salt mines offers fascinating peculiarities and is an exciting excursion not only for families with children.
Gustav Klimt Centre at Lake Atter
Like many of his fellow artists, Gustav Klimt regularly spent his holidays in the Salzkammergut. At Lake Atter he painted the majority of his landscape paintings that excite art lovers from all over the world. The Gustav Klimt Centre at Lake Atter holds an exhibition that presents visitors with the artist's world, his time and his artistic work.
Cumberland wildlife park Grünau
The Cumberland wildlife park in Grünau im Almtal in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut fascinates with its natural background. In the shadow of the Totes Gebirge, the 60 ha wildlife park offers an insight into the local animal world of the Alps. A special attraction are the northern bald ibis – a bird type that was already nearly extinct. The ways through the marvellous landscape of the wildlife park are also suitable for wheelchairs and prams and cleared in winter.
